The Nisenan, Miwok, Cayuse, Umatilla, and Walla Walla peoples are the traditional inhabitants of the unceded lands and territories of Rancho Cordova, Sacramento, and the surrounding region. These communities have stewarded the area's waterways, grasslands, oak woodlands, and natural resources for time immemorial.

🎆 Rancho Cordova Events Celebrating America's 250th

Community celebrations are at the heart of America's 250th, and Rancho Cordova's summer event lineup offers plenty of opportunities to join the festivities. The Cordova Community Council is hosting some major seasonal events that invite visitors and locals alike to gather, celebrate, and create lasting memories.

June brings Moonlight Movies in Village Green Park, where families can enjoy patriotic-themed double features under the stars on Friday evenings. In July, the Rancho Cordova Fourth of July Spectacular returns as a two-day celebration featuring a float parade, live music performances, delicious food trucks, thrilling carnival rides, community spirit, and a dazzling fireworks and drone show.

🐎 Follow the Pony Express Trail Through Rancho Cordova

One of Rancho Cordova's most fascinating connections to American history can be found along the route of the legendary Pony Express. Before modern communication connected the country in seconds, brave riders carried mail across vast stretches of the American frontier, helping link the East and West during a pivotal time in the nation's development.

The Fifteen Mile House played an important role in that story. Operated by Henry F. W. Deterding beginning in 1857, the site served as the second remount station of the Central Overland Pony Express during its brief but historic operation in 1860. On April 4, 1860, Pony Express rider Sam "Bill" Hamilton changed horses here while carrying the first eastbound Pony Express mail through the region. Today, visitors can connect with this remarkable chapter of American history by visiting the public monument near Costco on White Rock Road and the Pony Express heritage corridor at Mills Station Arts & Culture Center (The MACC).
