Stroll Along the American River Parkway
No rushing here. The American River Parkway is your invitation to take it slow, whether that means a quiet walk, watching cyclists whiz by, or simply sitting on a bench and appreciating the babbling river as you listen to the sounds of water and wildlife. Don't forget to download a good birdwatching app to identify the birds you hear. Our favorite is the free iOS app, Merlin Bird ID!
With 32 miles of mostly flat, shaded trails and plenty of picnic spots, the Parkway is a great option for all ages and Rancho Cordova locals would definitely agree. Bring a snack, a friend, your pup, or just your own thoughts. You can spend hours soaking up nature on these trails.

Paddle at Your Own Pace on Lake Natoma
If your idea of summer bliss involves water, sunshine, and zero stress, then head to Lake Natoma. The Sac State Aquatic Center offers incredibly affordable rentals on kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and even pedal boats, making it a perfect spot for beginners or anyone just looking to float their worries away.
All equipment like life vests and paddles are included. Friendly Sac State students run the efficient rental system during the summer and can teach you how to use your watercraft of choice if you need a helping hand. We recommend heading to the center early in the morning for the calmest water and coolest temps. Bring lots of sunscreen and a picnic lunch to enjoy on the beach.

Sip and Unwind in the Barrel District
Forget the fussy wine country crowds. Rancho Cordova’s Barrel District is home to several small but mighty breweries, a craft winery, a distillery, and a meadery that are all about good drinks and good vibes. Many have shaded patios, live acoustic music, and food truck access. All have a come-as-you-are attitude.
Want a few recommendations? Try an ice-cold, award-winning beer on the dog-friendly patio at Burning Barrel Brewing Co., enjoy live comedy nights at Fort Rock Brewing, or go full relaxation mode sampling international wines and small plates at Drink Eezy. No pressure. Just pour, sip, repeat.

"Park It" With a Book and Some Boba
Looking for your ultimate “do-nothing” afternoon? Grab an iced matcha latte with tapioca pearls from a Rancho Cordova tea shop or sip something soothing at Root of Happiness Kava Bar, then head to Hagan Community Park with a picnic blanket or camping chair to enjoy some outdoor reading amongst lush landscapes.
Other amenities at Hagan include a dog park, a community pool where you can swim some laps, paved walking paths, BBQ stations, and multi-use sports fields. Restrooms can be found around the park.
Enjoy a Farm-Fresh Saturday Brunch
Tucked away in the trees directly across the street from Hagan Community Park, Soil Born Farms is a slice of peaceful, rustic charm. Each Saturday from 8am-1pm, you’ll find a rotating menu of delicious, locally grown brunch items like seasonal frittatas, veggie-packed grain bowls, farm-fresh juices, and baked goods that somehow taste better under the shade of an old oak tree.
Browse the farm stand for just-picked produce, sip coffee with your toes in the grass, or take a short self-guided stroll through the gardens. It’s the kind of place where your only job is to slow down and enjoy every bite.

Book a Wellness Experience
Rest easy with a soothing 45-minute relaxation session at Wellness Salt Cave, where you’ll step into a glowing cave coated with Himalayan salt known for its anti-inflammatory properties. You'll sit in a chair, watch a display of simulated Northern Lights, and enjoy light music as you decompress.
