Celebrating Courage: Honoring LGBTQ Lost in Violence
May 4, 2023 2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Every Thursday- Saturday in May at the MACC
The MACC’s "Celebrating Courage" gallery highlights the heartbreaking losses and inspiring camaraderie of the LGBTQ community.
The gallery’s featured exhibit is PULSE Nightclub: 49 Elegies. This showcase by Artist John Gutoskey features a series of monoprints made to honor and commemorate each of the 49 people massacred at the LGBTQ PULSE nightclub in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, 2016. These works address not only the pain, grief, and aftermath of this tragic event but also intersect with current issues of gun violence, homophobia, Hispanophobia, violence against people of color and the transgender community, and LGBTQ rights.
In addition, Celebrating Courage will have an open call for artists to submit LGBTQ-themed art. For more information, please see the event prospectus on the MACC website under "Calls for Artists."
