Rancho Cordova: Host City for AMGEN TOC 2019

Nothing kicks off a Wednesday morning in December quite like a bike race!

And since the patrons of Rancho Cordova City Hall couldn't wait until the AMGEN Tour of California on May 13th, they held their own!

The announcement

At 6:00 am on December 5, 2018, AMGEN Tour of California announced the host cities for the 2019 AMGEN TOC from May 12-18, 2019. Media put out their stories and started their coverage while the staff of City of Rancho Cordova and Rancho Cordova Travel & Tourism busted out the cowbells. Rancho Cordova will be the host city for the stage 2 start of the Amgen Tour. This stage will take cyclists up to South Lake Tahoe- all in one day! However, the Tour has explored the larger Capital region in years past. In contrast, this is the first time the race will be hosted in Rancho Cordova. "We're elated to have this international event taking place right here in our city. This is a place where we love to welcome the world- especially since our community is so wonderfully diverse," said Marc Sapoznik, Executive Director of Rancho Cordova Travel & Tourism. Being a host city is just the start for more excitement in Rancho Cordova, CA.

Next steps

While the route for the tour has yet to be fully announced, fans can expect it by February 2019. Closer to race day, teams and riders will be publicized. In coordination with the City of Rancho Cordova, the Rancho Cordova Chamber of Commerce and the Cordova Community Council, Rancho Cordova Travel & Tourism will be establishing a committee to address event needs. These include sponsorship opportunities, public education, community engagement, and event day opportunities!
